January 28, 2015 - Today's Headlines & Solar Update

Good morning. Here is an updated look at the visible solar disk on Wednesday. Solar activity during the past 24 hours was moderate. Region 2268 located near center disk was responsible for the strongest X-Ray event of the period, an M1.4 solar flare peaking at 04:41 UTC (Jan 28). This was quickly followed up by a smaller C9.8 flare at 05:30 UTC. A coronal mass ejection (CME) was not associated with these flares. Newly numbered region 2277, now turning into view off the east limb, produced a few low level C-Flares. We will get a better look at the active region during the next day or so as it turns more directly into Earth view. Elsewhere, regions 2271, 2275 and newly assigned region 2276 continued to evolve, but remained fairly stable. Minor C-Class solar flares will remain probable during the next 24 hours, along with another isolated flare reaching above M1.0.
