_2010 was called the “year of disaster” but 2011 far outshone that year in terms of destruction. Why? Are disasters increasing?

    On December 19th of each year the Sun passes along the ecliptic close to the position of the Galactic Center, which is between the sting of the Scorpio constellation and the arrow of Sagittarius. At the present time the Galactic Center is in the Sun sign of Sagittarius approaching its closest alignment with our Winter Solstice. The Sun crosses the Winter Solstice on the 21st – 22nd December of each year. The centre of the galactic axis or plane of the Milky Way has already passed the solstice most exactly in 1998. Yet in broad terms we can say that the Galactic Center end of the galactic axis is aligned with the winter solstice at this time in history, something that occurs only once in a Great Year cycle.
  
In 2005, while drawing up the chart of the Indian Ocean Earthquake I made a discovery that connected this alignment or conjunction with disaster on Earth, for the Sun was close to the Winter Solstice and the Galactic Center while the nearly full Moon was opposite as the earthquake of 26 December 2004 occurred. I then went on to discover that similar alignments of the Sun and/ or Moon/ and or other heavenly bodies to the Galactic Center have been a repeated trigger for disasters of all kinds in the history of our planet.

As the astrology involved is rather complicated, I have decided to give most evidence for this by simply listing some of the major disasters in our known or recent history and some of the most significant alignments related to their occurrence. Click read more to read the entire article.

Many bird species in the Amazon rainforest previously isolated and thought to be extinct in the quarter-century following deforestation have reappeared in these same areas. Lead author Philip Stouffer, an ornithologist at Louisiana State University and his co-authors measured bird populations over 25 years in 11 forest fragments of varying sizes as small as 2.5 acres in Brazil's rainforest.

In the first decade of the long-term study, birds abandoned forest fragments and, ornithologists believed, went extinct. Then in the past 20 years, many bird species returned.

"Through long-term observations of fragmentation in tropical forests, this study provides verification that local extinction is accompanied by continual recolonization," said Saran Twombly, program director in NSF's Division of Environmental Biology, which funded the research.

The area was fragmented in "cookie cutter chunks" as a result of policies that encouraged use of the land -- mostly for cattle -- but required landowners to leave a portion of the area uncleared.
